The Tao Of Daniel: ORDINARY

There is a lot of talk about enlightenment these days.

It is perhaps a worrying sign when something beyond the ordinary is so much admired, searched for or required.

If one does not base oneself in the ordinary things then disappointment will swiftly arrive.

Any true experience of the Tao is one that can, and no doubt will, reemerge time and time again.

It is not the thing itself that will reoccur but the conscious experience of that thing.

This is important to understand.

Drinking wine = Tao. Waking early = Tao. Making love = Tao. Having an argument with a loved one = Tao. Taking a bath = Tao. Working out = Tao. Absolute confusion = Tao.

We undermine the small things by overcelebrating the big. We create boredom by our excitement. We foster feelings of hate by our unsustainable notions of love. We cause judgement by too easily accepting. We die every day by living so much.

It is not a problem. There are no problems actually.

It is what it is.

So let’s not be so surprised or too enthusiastic about it all.

You were born into a circus. Every relationship is a riddle. Every practice is a funeral.

Get used to being humbled. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Enjoy your unenjoyment.

This is all there’ll ever be: magic disguised as dull reality.
