There’s something about night. I write best when the stars are out and it’s mostly dark…

A sort of sadness fills my heart. The peaceful kind. Something like humility I guess. Then the wish to write arrives.

Writing is not an egotistic endeavour. Or at least not any more than others.

It is desperate at times, perhaps, yes. And the desire to be heard or seen, or to feel important, is there also.

But it’s sincere, I do believe…

Jerry Seinfeld (the famous American comedian) says that ‘writing is the hardest thing there is to do in the world - nobody can do it’. Just showing up, he explains, is worth rewarding someone for.

I totally agree.

Writing is totally deserved of applause. That somebody turns off the iphone, puts themselves in a chair (or on a mat) and does nothing but write words onto a page is a glorious miracle! And one that, I fear, is becoming somewhat of a rarity in our modern tech-driven age.

The consistent pattern in MY life is something like:

> Daily writing / journalling / note taking etc = contentment / peace / clarity

OR

> Forgetting my notebook even exists = confusion / minor panic / purposelessness

And yet still I have phases away from the wonderful world of writing!

What’s the cause, actually? What stops someone from doing that thing which, hundreds of times already, has shaped one’s life profoundly and allowed so many positive things to emerge and flourish?

Maybe we need to lose ourselves in order to find it again… it’s possible. And that would be very PARADOXICAL indeed!

I’m passionate about building positive habits… understanding them… making them unconscious / on autopilot. That’s what drives me to learn, to research, to understand, and to share them with others…

And writing is certainly the DADDY of all habits I believe:

  • write a page of random nonsense every morning when you wake

  • write a series of thoughts that randomly emerge

  • attempt to write a poem (set a time limit of 5 minutes if really nothing wants to come!)

  • write a to do list / schedule at the start of the week (tick off when complete)

  • write big bold words that mean MOST to you in life! Repeat them and, in turn, become them…

There are so many powerful ways to write. For me, these days, it’s the occasional restless morning and the glorious starry nights!

Find your way, whatever works for you… and as Seinfeld reminds us: CELEBRATE every page you write.

It’s really a miracle. Each and every line…
